ZF 8HP tuning is complex.
Default settings are poor.

The ZF 8HP is one of the best transmissions ever built — but out-of-the-box tune files leave enormous performance and drivability on the table.

✗ Untouched Default Tune
TCC LockToShift Delay at 2.0s — converter unlocks too early before every shift
TCC Max TPS at 30% — torque converter barely ever locks up
Flat shift table — all 8 gears target the same RPM
Torque correction minimum at 20% — harsh off-throttle downshifts
TCC settings hidden from software menus — requires manual XML editing
✓ 8HP Tuner Guided Calibration
TCC LockToShift Delay at 0.3s — crisp, responsive shifts every time
TCC Max TPS at 65% — converter locks under moderate throttle for efficiency
Gear-progressive shift targets — optimised RPM per gear for your application
Torque correction minimum at 60%+ — smooth, confident off-throttle shifts
Step-by-step guidance on every edit including hidden XML parameters

8HP TUNER — Session Example
YOU
My 8HP70 shifts feel sluggish and the torque converter barely seems to lock up. Where do I start?
8HP
Two likely culprits. First, check TransCtrl TCC Max TPS — the default is 30%, which means the converter only locks up at very light throttle. Raise this to 65% for a noticeable improvement in lockup frequency.

Second, TransCtrl TCC LockToShift Delay — default is 2.0s. This is the delay between the converter unlocking and a shift being allowed to execute. At 2.0s it creates a noticeably lazy feel. Drop it to 0.3s.

Both of these are hidden from the MTune menus on Demon TCU firmware. You'll need to edit them directly in the .save file:

⚠ Notepad++ → Encoding → UTF-16 LE BOM → find key → edit value only → save → write to ECU
YOU
My shift table is completely flat — same RPM for all 8 gears. Is that normal?
8HP
No — a flat shift table is the default and it's a sign the tune hasn't been touched. Each gear should target a progressively higher RPM shift point. For a mild street performance tune on an 8HP70, start here:

1st→2nd: 3800 RPM  ·  2nd→3rd: 4200  ·  3rd→4th: 4500
4th→5th: 4700  ·  5th→6th: 4800  ·  6th→7th: 4900  ·  7th→8th: 5200

These are starting points — edit them in MTune directly, not via the .save file.

Common questions

What transmission variants does 8HP Tuner cover?
8HP Tuner supports Gen 1 ZF 8HP transmissions across both modules. The MaxxECU module covers 8HP45, 8HP70, and 8HP90. The TurboLamik module supports 8HP45, 8HP50, 8HP51, 8HP55, 8HP70, 8HP75, 8HP76, 8HP90, and 8HP95. If you are unsure which variant you have, check the casting number on the transmission housing or the TCU part number.
What is TurboLamik and how is it different from MaxxECU?
TurboLamik is a standalone aftermarket TCU designed specifically for the ZF 8HP. Unlike MaxxECU — which is an engine ECU that also controls the 8HP via the Dodge 8HP firmware profile — TurboLamik is a dedicated transmission controller with its own calibration software (TunerPro / TurboPro). The 8HP Tuner TurboLamik module supports .bin file upload and analysis, shift map and torque table guidance, and live data log correlation. TurboLamik access is currently by invitation — contact us if you are running a TurboLamik controller.
What tuning software does 8HP Tuner work with?
8HP Tuner is designed specifically for use with MaxxECU MTune (Dodge 8HP firmware profile). All guidance, menu paths, .save file editing instructions, and parameter references are specific to MaxxECU MTune. 8HP Tuner is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with MaxxECU or its parent company.
What counts as one "analysis"?
Each new tuning session uses one credit from your session pool. Within a session you can ask up to your plan's question limit (5 for Starter, 10 for Pro) — only the session start costs a credit, not each individual question.
How do sub-users work on Pro?
Pro accounts can create up to 5 sub-users. Each sub-user gets their own username and password, and the master account allocates sessions to them from the main 50-session pool. Sub-users log in independently and can only use their allocated credits. This is ideal for tuning workshops with multiple staff.
Do credit top-ups expire?
No. Top-up credits are added to your account permanently and never expire. They stack on top of any existing credits you have.
Is this safe to use for tuning my vehicle?
8HP Tuner provides guidance and starting point values based on known ZF 8HP parameters. All recommendations should be verified by a qualified tuner before writing to your ECU. The AI will always flag when a change carries risk and explain why. You remain responsible for any changes made to your vehicle.
